random

I came across this photo from a Screenwriting practicum class in an old Michigan newsletter and thought it was pretty funny. I didn't know this photo existed, or maybe I did and forgot. Anyway, that's Alexander Payne in the white button down on the left. I'm to his left, looking very enthused.

I feel obligated to note that my expression belies the fact that I greatly enjoyed having Payne as a guest (for 2 days, we also had lunch with him) and that he was very helpful and inspiring. He workshopped a portion of my script and was complimentary and encouraging at a crucial time where I had pretty much no confidence in my writing ability. He gave me hope and turned things around. So, Alexander, I think it's time for another talk. I'm in Omaha now, please give me a call.

Haha, that is a great look on your face! You should try to meet with him and then be creepy and bring the photo.

Yeah. Here's how the conversation could go:

Lindsay: Hello Mr. Payne.
Payne: Hi. Who are you?
Lindsay: (takes out picture) This may answer that question.
Payne: Nope. Still don't know who you are.

well you forgot to mention the hug he gave you and that he referred to you as adorable. so the convo could actually go:
AP: hello?
LBT: Hi it's lindsay from the screenwriting practicum at michigan. you gave me a hug?
AP: ah, yes, the script Darsan. You were adorable and talented. do you want a job on my next movie?
LBT: yes, thank you. we can frame this photo in our work space and laugh about it for years to come.

I vote for conversation #2.

I saw him two more times at USC and then moved to his hometown, so I could really sound like a stalker.

Cool picture!!! What's funny is when I googled Alexander Payne, on the film bio, under awards, it says Thomas Haden Church was nominated for best supporting actor & also best supporting actress. Either it was a typo or he really is talented!
