Flashpapr

In a nostalgic moment last week, I purchased Flashpapr's self-titled CD from Polyvinyl (they're not actually on Polyvinyl, but you can order it there). Flashpapr is/was (don't think they've made music together in awhile, unfortunately) a really great band from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Some of the musicians were living in New York at the time, but they all have roots in Ann Arbor. They are also a group of really nice people. The singer, Fred Thomas, has been involved in a bunch of other good bands/projects, including the current Saturday Looks Good To Me (who are actually on Polyvinyl) and has released solo stuff too.

I know I had this CD at some point, but it has been lost in the shuffle of numerous moves (or stolen along with most of my other CDs from the break-in of Laura's jeep in Detroit). Anyway, I decided that I wanted the real thing once again. Here is a song, Free Rides on the Bus, from that CD:

Ok, this is major nostalgia. i have 4 flashpapr songs on my ipod and from time to time i listen to them and then want to go and order anything they've ever released. i miss ann arbor, miss school, miss flashpapr and miss that whole time. a few stand-out times of seeing flashpapr include: ice cream party sitting on the stairs of i think either jacob or zach's parent's house, basement of east quad when fred did a punk rock break down of the audience and band, and that time when they were playing with 2 other bands (who were they? ida?) at that place in detroit (detorit contemporary?) and they went in a round of alternating one song each for the entire time. thanks for the memories linds!

Yeah, those were the days. How great was it to make an ice cream sundae and eat it while sitting in a living room watching and listening to Flashpapr play beautiful music?

Did you go to that one show that was all noises from rocks and leaves rustling? I think it was in like a Buddhist meditation house/room? That was pretty wild.

yeah, i think that was zack's project, right? but that one i am pretty sure was just in a class room!! we all had a bowl in front of us of leaves that were connected to something electronic and it would turn on at moments... however, we did go to a show at that new age meditation room that also featured rocks and noises and some flashpapr folk in addition to this one guy who was sort of a hang on to that crew, and definitely more serious and guru-type. i think cayce was at that one too.
